Monarch Group is a multi-generation local business, with more than 50 years of experience developing high-quality market-rate and middle-income apartment communities in San Diego and the Western U.S. Monarch’s partners have entitled, developed, or acquired over 19,000 total residential units in high barriers to entry Western U.S. markets, including over 12,000 units in the San Diego region. Partner Sarah Kruer Jager joined Monarch in 2005 as a founding member of the Monarch Investment Funds real estate private equity funds family. Sarah works closely with the founding partners to set the firm’s strategic direction and oversees day-to-day business activities for all of Monarch’s wholly owned and joint venture investments. In this capacity, Sarah leads the acquisition, predevelopment, finance, asset management, and disposition functions and manages relationships with Monarch’s community and capital partners.
Essex Property Trust
Essex has over 49 years of experience in building and long-term ownership of market-rate and middle-income rental housing and mixed-use developments, including over one million square feet of ground floor retail space. Essex owns more than 250 communities including over 60,000 apartment homes, and is one of the largest apartment owners in California, including over 5,600 apartment homes located in San Diego. Essex’s executive management team has an average of over 20 years with the company and has a proven track record of partnering with public agencies on large-scale apartment/mixed-use projects. The Development group is led by Adam Berry, Chief Investment Officer for Essex, who is intimately involved in this project. During his nearly 20-year tenure at Essex, the company’s portfolio has grown exponentially and his leadership continues to guide the Development team in their efforts to successfully produce multifamily housing up and down the West Coast.
Eden Housing
Eden Housing is one of California’s oldest and most successful non-profit housing developers. In the firm’s 53 years of experience, Eden has owned, managed, and operated more than 11,000 affordable rental apartments in San Diego and other communities throughout California. Eden has been led by Linda Mandolini, President & CEO since 2001. She oversees affordable housing production, resident support services, property management components of the organization, and a staff of more than 400 employees. Linda is a long-time, well-respected leader on the local, state and national level and worked tirelessly for the passage of California Housing bonds that collectively generated $10 billion for housing.
JMI Sports
Founded in 2006 by CEO Erik Judson and former Padres owner John Moores, JMI Sports has deep sports industry experience and relationships in San Diego and nationally. As the first hire dedicated solely to managing the design and development of the Padres’ new ballpark, Erik was involved in every aspect of what ultimately became Petco Park, from the earliest stages of the ballpark’s planning through its successful opening in 2004. With JMI Sports, Erik and his team have managed the development of Matthew Knight Arena at the University of Oregon, USD’s Fowler Park, SDSU’s new basketball practice facility, as well as many other projects nationally. Today, JMI Sports leads the development of SDSU’s new Aztec Stadium in Mission Valley.
