Dear Mayor Gloria and Members of the San Diego City Council,
As you consider the future of the Midway District, we would like to voice our support for the proposal submitted by the HomeTownSD team. HomeTownSD is a unique opportunity to choose a development plan that truly emphasizes housing for all in an equitable and sustainable way.
We know that our city leaders understand all too well the housing needs of our region. HomeTownSD has the most affordable housing of all the plans submitted to the city – over 62% of the proposed homes will be affordable. This far exceeds the 25% percent affordable housing requirement under the Surplus Lands Act. HomeTownSD is designed with an eye towards working families with a 10,000 square foot childcare center, job training and other programs to catalyze opportunities for residents.
It proposes a new sports and entertainment arena, an urban marketplace where local entrepreneurs and small businesses can thrive, as well as an expansive public park and open spaces. We are excited to endorse this visionary plan that will change the way we think about development in San Diego well into the future.
